Bad Bunny used his global platform this Fourth of July to deliver a sharp political and cultural statement through his new video “NUEVAYol” — and it’s resonating far beyond music.

Released Friday (July 4), the video celebrates New York’s Latin culture while fiercely defending immigrant communities, particularly those of Puerto Rican descent. It blends powerful visuals with unapologetic messaging, reinforcing Bad Bunny’s role as both artist and activist.

AI ‘Trump’ Voice Flips the Narrative

One of the video’s most jarring moments comes when a voice — sounding eerily like former president Donald Trump — crackles through a vintage 1970s radio. But this time, the message is shockingly different:

“I made a mistake. I want to apologize to the immigrants in America,” says the AI-generated Trump voice. “I want to say that this country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans…”

The surreal statement stands in stark contrast to Trump’s real-world policies, especially following the passage of his controversial “Big Beautiful Bill” just one day earlier. The legislation expands ICE’s reach with 10,000 new agents and 100,000 additional detention beds, escalating deportation efforts across the country.

A Continuation of Bad Bunny’s Activism

“NUEVAYol” isn’t Bad Bunny’s first political move. Just last month, he criticized ICE in a video recorded in Carolina, Puerto Rico, where agents were filmed detaining residents.

“Those motherf—ers are in these cars, RAV4s,” he said. “They came here… sons of bitches, instead of letting the people alone and working.”

Honoring Latin Identity

Directed by Renell Medrano, the video doubles as a celebration of Puerto Rican identity and the broader Latinx experience in the U.S. In one symbolic scene, the Statue of Liberty wears a massive Puerto Rican flag draped across her forehead — reclaiming a symbol of freedom for a community often treated as outsiders.

The final message, delivered in bold Spanish text, reads: “Juntos Somos Más Fuertes” — “Together We Are Stronger.”

A Timely Statement

Bad Bunny’s NUEVAYol lands at a critical moment for immigrant families in America. While July 4th is traditionally a celebration of freedom, for many, it’s a reminder of ongoing exclusion. By choosing this date, Bad Bunny redefines patriotism — one that includes and honors the contributions of immigrants.

With “NUEVAYol,” Bad Bunny once again proves he’s not just a chart-topper, but a voice for justice and cultural pride.
